Two Weeks in Europe: Women’s Carry-On Packing List

Pro Tip:

This list assumes you’ll be doing laundry at least once!

If you’re not staying somewhere with a washer, you can look for wash’n’ fold services or laundromats.

Essentials

  • Passport

  • Int’l driver’s license

  • Credit card(s)

  • ATM card

  • Backpack/day pack

  • Small purse/crossbody/wristlet

  • Money belt

Toiletries

  • Daily use items: toothbrush, floss, contact lenses, etc.

  • Shampoo/conditioner if not in hotel

  • Disposable razor

  • Travel sizes of hair products, toothpaste, deodorant, sunscreen, etc. (or decant into travel-sized bottles)

  • Tampons, pads, etc.

  • Moisturizer w/ sunscreen

  • Makeup: try to minimize, and prefer solid/cream products over liquids

  • Makeup remover wipes

  • Travel detergent packs

  • Plastic bag for laundry

  • Anti-odor for shoes (powder, spray)

Clothes

  • 2-3 pairs of shoes max

    • Sneakers/walking shoes

    • Dressier pair (sandals in summer or boots in winter) - should still be comfortable to walk in

  • Pants x2 (capris or shorts in summer)

  • Skirt/skort x1

  • Dress x1

  • Shirts x6 (all should mix/match with bottoms)

  • Sweater/hoodie (x2 if not summer)

  • Underwear x7

  • Socks x7 (fewer if summer)

  • Bras x3

  • Pajamas

Summer additions

  • Swimsuit

  • Coverup

  • Flip-flops or beach sandals

  • Sun hat

Shoulder or off-season additions

  • Tights/leggings

  • Infinity scarf

  • Base layer (merino wool cami or similar)

  • Light jacket (denim, light raincoat)

  • Warm hat

Gadgets

  • Phone, tablet, e-reader, etc. & cables/chargers for each (keep one in easy reach for the plane)

  • Adapters x2

  • Noise-canceling headphones or earbuds

  • Wired headphones/earbuds for airplane screens

  • Power bank x2 for emergency charging

Meds & First Aid

  • Prescriptions for each day of travel +5 in case of delay

  • Pain relievers

  • Sleep aids

  • Caffeine pills to push through that jet lag

  • Digestion (antacid, anti-diarrheal, etc.)

  • Band-aids

  • Moleskin

  • Hand sanitizer

Misc (as needed)

  • Eye mask & earplugs for sleeping
